Before he persuaded an acting career, Richard took up several odd jobs. He worked as a Stage Manager for New York Cort Theatre in 1961. Then served as a Stage Manager again but for a different theatre called John Golden Theatre, NY in 1962. Along with serving as a stage manager, he tried acting and did a few stages.

After acquiring quite a knowledge about acting he debuted in the entertainment industry in 1962 with a character named Garfield in the TV series Car 54, Where Are You. This TV show opened his doors to the industry and he appeared in several TV shows.
In 1964, Richard debuted in movies with a short role in the movie Babu 73. Then appeared again in the movie House Made Of Dawn playing the role of District Attorney in 1972. Throughout his entire acting career, Richard has appeared in a total of 134 movies of various genres including Comedy, Action, And Drama.
